1) AGS is a 4-week program held at Hendrix College in Conway
2) AGS is completely free*
3) AGS applications are due Jan 20
Students' families are responsible for driving the student to Conway and picking them up, but room, board, education, and entertainment are all paid by the State.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are curious and who would benefit from meeting other out-of-the-box thinkers from across the state.
Columnist Evaluation Check In
Which columnist are you following? You will need to read and thoroughly annotate 4 columns. You may do this through a computer or online resource such as simply copying and pasting into Word, Evernote, Google Docs, etc, or through a program such as A.nnotate.com. You might also choose to print the columns and annotate by hand.
Hint: In order to understand the author's purpose and rhetoric, you will need some background on your columnist. What is known about the person's personal history and experience? Where is this author's work published? What are his/her general views? Liberal or Conservative? Who is this person's typical audience? You need to understand these things in order to truly understand where this author is coming from and what he or she is trying to accomplish.
